Action Comedy- The Genre

Remember the fight scene when Colossus comes to collect Wade Wilson aka Deadpool and recruit him for X-Men ? Wilson makes feeble attempts at fighting Colossus but then Colossus handcuffs him and then when he's taking him away, Deadpool slips away leaving his hand still cuffed, showing the finger and escaping. Hilarious, wasn't it ?

This is what action comedy is all about. The sub-genre is all about incorporating humor within action. And onto a personal note, this is my favorite genre among all. It's always a delight to get to have some laughs while enjoying action packed scenes by some of the greatest directors.

So, here are my top five picks in the genre.

1. The Nice Guys

The movie is about a licensed private investigator and a single father, Holland March (Gosling) , who is paid by Mrs. Glenn to look into the case of her niece, Misty, a porn star, who's been in news for recently being murdered but according to Mrs. Glenn, she saw her after she was found dead. His investigation leads him to Amelia, and then further to an encounter with Jackson Healey (Crowe) who is a un-licensed private detective hired by Amelia to make March stop looking for her. But then in the next turn of events, Amelia is found missing, as she is on the run. Unraveling the mystery behind Misty's death and Amelia's link with the case, Gosling and Crowe give a captivating performance with some great action and wacky scenes full of good laughs.

2. Deadpool 1 & 2

After being diagnosed with cancer, Wade Wilson played by Ryan Reynolds, gets exposed to experimental mutiny which horribly destroys his skin and turns him into ugly but grants him the super power to heal at an abnormally fast rate. He can even grow back body parts. He adapts an alter ego, naming himself, Deadpool, a foul mouthed Marvel superhero, who uses his powers to fight enemies and goes on to ultimately finish the person who was behind his mutiny. Deadpool's character is immensely entertaining. With his continuous witty comments, loaded with dark humor, he tackles his enemies effortlessly. Keeping the audience engaged and wanting for more. Deadpool is the ultimate movie when looking for one in the action comedy genre.

3. 21 & 22 Jump Street

This movie is a must watch. Full with goofy lines and perfect comic timing, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum deliver a captivating performance. The two play cops, who went to the same high school, where one was cool and other a nerd. As cops, one of them is good with brains but with poor build to be a cop and the other, strong and quick but bad at learning theoretical stuff. They help each other and clear the exams and become closest friends. They're stuck with boring jobs, looking for promotion, and when they get an exciting job to go undercover, under the department of 21 Jump Street they are back at a high school to bust out some drug dealers and its supplier. The following incidents are full of laugh out loud moments and satisfactory ending. The movie will leave you wanting for more which you get in the next part,22 Jump Street.

4. Spy

This movie stars Jude Law, Jason Stathom, Melissa McCarthy, Alison Janney and Rose Byrne but it's main focus is on  McCarthy who makes a statement of a female, who can generally be considered incompetent, being a bad-ass agent. After Fine, Jude Law, her partner is assumed dead, Susan Cooper, played by McCarthy takes the responsibility to avenge his death by taking over his case and turning into a field agent from a desk agent. McCarthy does a phenomenal job by just not performing good action but also maintaining a perfect comic timing throughout. She manages to get to the culprit and proves well to every person who once assumed her incompetent.

5. The Heat

The Heat stars Sandra bullock and Melissa McCarthy. Now you may think I'm a McCarthy fan but this one really deserves a watch. This is another buddy comedy in my list and totally worth it. Bullock and McCarthy establish an interesting relationship throughout the movie, with Mullins, McCarthy goofing up most of the scenes with her usual perfect comic timing. Sandra plays, a top notch FBI agent, Sarah Ashburn who very well deserves a promotion but being an arrogant, determined, female is still hustling for it. Their case lands them in scenarios that are full of cackles and makes you thoroughly enjoy the movie. The movie ends with revealing the suspense of who the culprit they were looking for was, while all the way delivering great laughs.
