Coco: A Re-watch Worthy Animation
Initially released in October of 2017, Coco is one of the most critically acclaimed animated movies of all time. The movie has won over a dozen awards, including an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film, and two Golden Globe awards under the categories Best Motion Picture-Drama and Best Animated Feature Film.
It is a heartwarming story of a Mexican boy, Miguel, who is passionate about music, but, is unfortunately banned by his family to do anything with music, ever since his great-great-grandfather, Coco's father left his great-great-grandmother, Imelda, to pursue his passion to play music for the world and never came back. And thus began the practice of shoe-making in the Rivera family by his great-great-grandmother, Imelda Rivera.
The movie begins with the celebration of the day of the dead, Día de Muertos, remembering and paying respect to their beloved deceased. Trying to grab the opportunity to showcase his talents and seize his moment, as per the words of his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz, Miguel, decides on borrowing Ernesto's invaluable original showcased guitar. Soon after he learns that the very same guitar was owned by his great-great-grandfather, pointing to the possibility of Ernesto being Coco's father who abandoned her. Borrowing turns out to be stealing and lands him on the magical land of the dead.
Startled to find himself invisible to the living and being very well able to see the dead, he stumbles on to find his dead family. And then follows some exciting events where Imelda wants to send him back to the land the of living but with a condition, to never play music again. But Miguel has made up his mind and goes on to search for his other possible family, the great Ernesto and ask for his wish to return to the land of the living, conditions free, and he must do so before the first ray of the dawn.
Miguel on his journey comes across Hector, a trickster who's remembered by none of his living family and so, is shunned to travel to their land. Hector helps Miguel to reach Ernesto and in return Miguel promises to put up Hector's picture in the land of the living. The story continues to reveal an exciting suspense and end on a satisfactory note.
Coco is a delightful movie and is definitely worth a re-watch.
