Flipping through the pages of The Princess Diaries

For this Thursday, let me take you through  the memory lane. Remember the days when we were taken to the library once every week and there was this one girl, who'd be reading The Princess Diaries.

Well, one of my classmates used to read the book and I used to ask her isn't it too girlish ?
And I had the same thinking until 2016 when I finally saw the movies.

The two movies are based on the book by Meg Cabot. by the same name and has an exceptionally irreplaceable cast including; Academy award winner Anne Hathaway as Mia, the Academy Award Winner and Emmy Award Winner, Julie Andrews popularly known for playing Marypoppins, is Queen Clarisse and Mia's grandmother, Hector Elizondo as Joe, Heather Matarazzo plays Mia's best friend Lilly and Mandy Moore is the mean girl. The movies are directed by Gary Marshall.

The first part is about an ignored teenager who lacks in confidence but is bright enough and is out of the blue told that she is the only living heir to the throne of Genovia and has limited time to take the decision to accept to be the next in line. For the while she decides, Clarisse offers her to prepare in case she accepts and take grooming lessons.

Mia goes through a complete transformation from a tangle-hair-ed, bushy-eyebrow-ed girl to the Princess of Genovia. The grooming and her parallel transformation into this confident and empowered girl who is ready to face the challenges life throws on her, now with the popularity of being a princess is what the movie is all about. How she handles her responsibilities and the choices she makes are just what the moral in the stories is.

The bond she creates with her grandmother over time is the highlight of the movies. Where she has recently found out that she has a grandmother who is the queen of Genovia, Mia and Clarisse establish a relationship which is not a formal one but friendly with the queen accepting Mia's mistake and inspiring her to be a strong and confident a woman.

Another important part of the story is her friendship with her best friend, Lily and what happens when she gets in the trap laid by the mean girl of her school, Lana, the cheer leader and the popular one and events that follow are learning some basic life lessons.

The movies are sure about a girl but they are not one of those typical girly movies and should not be skipped. If not in your early years, then now, go ahead and watch the two movies and you'll have at least ticked out a movie from the movie checklist .

Also, the cutie, Fat Louis , is another reason you should go check out the movies !
